If you’ve been following me for any length of time, you know that I’ve had some skin issues intermittently throughout my life.

(To learn more about my struggle with acne and keratosis pilaris leading up to my wedding last year, read this post.)

My story in a nutshell? It definitely took me a while to find the right combination of skincare products to help get my skin looking its best. And sometimes I still have the occasional breakout that I need to deal with.

Now clearly we know that skincare isn’t the only thing that affects your skin health. Here are some nutritional tips for keeping your skin in good shape.

Many of these nutrients and dietary factors are ones I come back to myself whenever my skin is misbehaving. I’m also in the process of getting my gut tested to see if that’s an underlying cause of the occasional skin issues I have. (I have a history of antibiotic use for Lyme so my gut has been through the ringer in the past!)

So tweaking your diet or addressing underlying gut or hormone issues can be hugely important for keeping your skin healthy. And if you need help working through that process, I’m your girl.

But once you’ve got your diet and lifestyle on the right path, it’s incredibly helpful to have good quality products to keep your skin happy and beautiful.

Healthy Skin Helps You Show Up In The World

As an aside, I want you to remember that physical beauty isn’t the only thing you have to offer this world.

But having healthy, clear skin can really help boost your confidence and allow you to show up authentically in relationships and in the world in general.

Trust me, I know all too well the emotional impact of having skin troubles. When I was struggling with my skin, it really affected my desire to be seen both personally and professionally.

When my skin was at its worst, and I was visiting my then-fiancé overnight, I’d quietly wake up in the morning and sneak past the couch he was sleeping on (he always gave me the bed!)

I’d tiptoe into his bathroom where I had my makeup bag. And I’d use just enough coverup to hide the spots on my face but still try to look “just rolled out of bed natural”.

Yep… I was that anxious about him seeing my red, bumpy face that I’d put makeup on before he woke up. So I definitely understand the stress that comes from your skin being in rough shape.

Now that we’re married, I never mess around with trying to hide my imperfections from him. And I generally try not to get too worked up about having a breakout or two.

But I still want my skin to look as good as possible, as I’d expect most women do!

Honestly though, my skin isn’t perfect these days largely because I’m not obsessed with following the perfect diet, supplement, and skincare routine. I’m a little lazy with my skincare, and I’m also not into the idea of following an overly restrictive diet that cuts into my ability to socialize with people or live a normal life.

My beauty and my health are important to me but they don’t trump spending time with friends and loved ones, or enjoying and appreciating good tasting food.

So yes, sometimes I still get breakouts. But over the last year or so as I’ve been eating fairly well, supplementing wisely, and consistently using Beautycounter skincare products, I’ve noticed my skin is in pretty good shape most of the time. And I’m happy with that!

Formulated specifically for oily, acne-prone skin this complete line of products will be your best bet for banishing blemishes and smoothing your skin tone! Use morning and night for active acne, and just at night for maintenance.

Use daily as a face wash to help detox your skin and pull out impurities.

Tip: I recommend using a warm knife to slice the bar into smaller pieces so that you can make it last longer. (See this post.)

This overnight serum gently exfoliates the top layer of skin cells leaving your face refreshed, glowing, and acne-scar free. Use one to two nights a week.

Use to set your makeup and keep your skin oil-free all day. Spray on after washing face and prior to adding any moisturizer or facial oils, or after applying makeup.

Use two to three times a week to cleanse pores and pull out impurities to unclog your skin. It can also be used as a spot treatment.
