When Isabel, a registered dietitian specializing in women’s health and disordered eating, left her full-time job to start her private practice, she had no idea how quickly she would face the pressures of burnout.
Like many healthcare professionals, Isabel was juggling multiple roles—working full-time at a mental health agency, contracting with another coaching business, and taking on a few private clients of her own.
Eventually, her drive to create something better led her to leave those roles and pursue her private practice full-time.
But even then, she found herself stuck in a business model that left her drained and exhausted.
Through strategic shifts and a clear plan for scaling, Isabel transformed her business into one that doubled her revenue, reduced her workload, and gave her back the joy she once had for her work.
Here’s how she did it—and how you can too!
From Exhaustion to a Leap of Faith
Before starting her private practice, Isabel worked two jobs: one full-time at a mental health agency and one as a contractor for another business.
These roles gave her valuable experience in counseling clients, but they also exposed her to gaps in how traditional dietetics approaches care.
She began to envision a better way to serve clients, one that integrated her unique approach to women’s health and disordered eating.
She took the leap into entrepreneurship while still working these jobs, starting small with just two or three private clients.
However, the demand for her services quickly grew, and she faced a pivotal decision:
“I was juggling so much that I couldn’t keep up. I quit the other two jobs and took a leap of faith to invest fully in my business. It was scary, but I knew I had ideas that could truly improve my clients’ outcomes.”
This decision was a turning point, but it wasn’t without challenges.
Isabel’s early business model relied almost entirely on insurance-based clients, which came with red tape, inconsistent income, and a relentless demand for her time.
The Breaking Point: Seven Client Sessions a Day
Isabel’s business quickly filled her schedule, but the volume of work became unsustainable.
She describes seeing up to seven clients a day—35 clients a week—while also navigating the administrative burden of working with insurance companies.
“I was working eight-hour days with a lunch break spent frantically doing session notes and reviewing labs. I was a shell of a person. When my husband and I talk about this, I always apologize.
At the end of the day, I remember just crashing on the couch… I couldn’t even have a conversation I was so drained.”
Despite the long hours, her income was limited by the reimbursement rates set by insurance companies.
She realized that to make more money, she would have to see even more clients, something that was impossible to sustain.
Isabel loved being a dietitian, but she was losing the joy in her work.
Something had to change.

The Transition to a Scalable Model
When Isabel joined my Nourished Business Accelerator (NBA) program, she began to explore alternatives to her insurance-based, one-on-one model.
Through the program, she discovered how to create a scalable signature program that would allow her to serve more clients without working longer hours.
Here’s how she made the shift:

- Identifying Common Themes:
Isabel noticed that many of her clients had similar challenges and goals. She realized she could create a program that addressed these common needs, streamlining her process while still delivering high-quality results. - Building Community:
One key insight was that her clients often felt isolated in their struggles. By transitioning to a group coaching model, Isabel could provide a supportive community where clients could connect, share, and grow together. - Streamlining Education:
Instead of repeating the same lessons with every one-on-one client, Isabel created a curriculum that delivered the foundational information her clients needed through video modules, PDFs, and other resources. This allowed her to use her one-on-one time for deeper, more personalized coaching.
“I put all the key milestones and lessons into a signature program that many people could join. It streamlined my process and created a community for my clients, which was incredibly rewarding to see.”
The Results: Doubling Revenue While Cutting Workload
After launching her scalable program, Isabel immediately saw a transformation—not just in her business, but in her clients’ outcomes.
- First Year Revenue:
Before implementing her scalable model, Isabel was on track to earn $100,000 in revenue by seeing 35 clients a week. After launching her program and running it twice in the second half of the year, her annual revenue jumped to $200,000—double what she initially expected. - Workload Reduction:
With her new business model, Isabel reduced her one-on-one client load from 35 sessions per week to just 12 clients per week. She now spends three days a week seeing private clients and has time to focus on supporting her group coaching program.
“I went from seven clients a day to three or four a day, three days a week. The time and energy I’ve gained have made such a difference in how I show up for my clients—and in my own life.”
Refocusing on What Matters
One of the most significant changes Isabel made was narrowing her niche.
Initially, her programs targeted broader health concerns. Over time, she honed her focus to specialize in PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) within the context of hormonal health.
This refinement allowed her to attract more aligned clients and deliver even better results.
“Specializing in PCOS has allowed me to deepen my expertise and create a program that’s even more impactful. It’s not just about casting a wide net—it’s about serving the right people in the right way.”
Lessons Learned: From Overwhelm to Simplicity
Like many dietitians transitioning to entrepreneurship, Isabel initially felt the need to include everything she knew in her program.
She spent countless hours creating detailed PDFs, video modules, and lesson plans, only to realize later that this approach overwhelmed her clients.
“Early on, I got caught up in including the kitchen sink of everything I’d ever learned, thinking it was all important. Clients need all the PDFs, all the recordings, all the information. But that took so much time and energy and wasn’t very effective. Clients had to sift through it to find what they needed, instead of being able to take immediate action.
I thought more was better. But I learned that clients don’t need all the information—they need the right information delivered in a way that’s actionable and easy to implement.”
This shift in mindset saved Isabel time and energy while improving her program’s effectiveness.
What Does Isabel’s Business Look Like Today?
Today, Isabel runs a thriving business that serves clients through her signature program and one-on-one coaching.
She’s no longer dependent on insurance reimbursements, and her streamlined approach allows her to show up fully for her clients without burning out.
Her typical week now includes:
- Three days of private client sessions, with most clients also participating in her signature program.
- Time spent supporting her group coaching program and refining her curriculum.
- Personal time to recharge, enjoy her life, and invest in her relationships.
“My energy has completely shifted. I feel confident that I’m delivering my best work while also creating a life that aligns with my values. I can show up fully and not run on empty. That energy translates into supporting healing and growth and helping clients create the life they want.
It helps me feel better about my work and more confident that I’m serving clients to my best capacity.”
Key Takeaways from Isabel’s Journey
- Less Is More:
Simplify your program to focus on the key steps clients need to achieve their desired outcome. Too much information can overwhelm clients and dilute your impact. - Create Community:
A group coaching model can provide immense value by fostering connection and mutual support among clients. - Focus on Results:
The true value of your program lies in the results it delivers, not in the number of PDFs, videos, or modules included. - Invest in Support:
Isabel’s success was fueled by her willingness to seek guidance, join a coaching program, and implement the strategies she learned. - Don’t Wait for Perfection:
Taking action, even when it feels scary, is the only way to create meaningful change. Perfection is not required to start seeing results.
Final Words of Wisdom
For anyone considering a shift to a scalable program model, Isabel offers this advice:
“There isn’t going to be an absence of fear. In retrospect, it sounds great to say I cut my one-on-one sessions by 30%, but at the time, I had no idea what would happen.
I could have launched the program, and it could have been a bust. My fear was, this program is going to crumble, and my business is going to crumble in its first year.
But I decided to take strategic action anyway—not just random action, but intentional action. Doing it, not just thinking about it!”
Isabel’s journey is a powerful example of what’s possible when you pair determination with the right strategy.
Whether you’re looking to scale your business, reduce your workload, or simply find more joy in your work, her story proves that transformation is within reach… and maybe closer even than you think!
