The Real Reason You’re Not Standing Out Online As A Health Coach (Even If You’re Qualified and Passionate)

Here’s a tough truth that Jillian and I unpacked in our conversation: being good at what you do is no longer enough.

There are thousands of qualified, passionate, well-trained health professionals online right now.

And unfortunately, the internet doesn’t reward the most experienced—it rewards the clearest.

If your messaging is vague, generic, or overly focused on tools like “HTMA” or “functional labs,” your dream client is going to scroll right past it.

The problem isn’t your credentials. It’s your positioning.

According to Jillian:

“What you think you’re selling is not what you’re actually selling.”

Your potential clients aren’t buying a test or a session—they’re buying a transformation.

They want to become a version of themselves that feels healthier, more energized, more confident, and more in control.

Information Is Everywhere. Transformation Is What Sells.

Jillian explained that the biggest market shift in 2025 is this: people aren’t paying for information anymore.

They can get that for free on YouTube, TikTok, or even ChatGPT.

What they will pay for is clarity, connection, and transformation.

“Information is cheaper and more accessible than ever. That’s why you need to sell a future version of your client—the transformation, not just the knowledge.”

If your marketing is simply “explaining” or “educating,” but not emotionally connecting to a deeper goal or struggle your client is facing, it’s likely blending into the background.

So how do you actually stand out online as a health coach in this environment?

Step 1: Specialize to Become Sought After

Jillian’s first business was in abdominal massage therapy—a super niche, hands-on healing modality that helped reposition the uterus and support women’s pelvic health.

You’d think that would be hard to sell, right?

Nope.

“I was so sought after, once I specialized. People were driving two hours just to come see me.”

Why? Because she specialized. She didn’t offer “general massage.” She offered a specific solution for a specific type of client with a specific problem.

That lesson carried into her online business as well.

If you want to stand out online as a health coach, one of the most effective ways to do that is to niche down your messaging to a particular transformation.

Not forever, but enough that your marketing speaks directly to the people you want to help most.

Remember, being known for something specific leads to clients seeking you out.

Step 2: Shift from Selling Tools to Selling Results

A common mistake I see (especially in the functional nutrition world) is practitioners trying to sell the tool—like the HTMA test, GI-MAP, or DUTCH panel—as if their clients already know why they should care.

Spoiler alert: they don’t.

“The test is just the boat. You’re selling the destination.” – Jillian Anderson

Instead of marketing the HTMA test, market what the test helps reveal, fix, or change.

Ask yourself:

  • What pain is this client in before they work with me?

  • What do they deeply want that they haven’t been able to figure out on their own?

  • What does life look like after we’ve worked together?

When you make your marketing about the before and after, not the “what” of your process, you start attracting aligned, committed clients, not just curious tire-kickers.

Step 3: Make It Obvious Why You’re Different

Let’s be honest. There are hundreds—maybe thousands—of coaches and practitioners offering similar services to you online.

So you have to make it easy for someone to understand why they should work with you.

“If you don’t say the thing out loud, no one is going to know it. You have to tell your audience what to think.” – Jillian Anderson

This isn’t about arrogance. It’s about clarity.

Jillian shared how modesty holds many of her clients back. They don’t want to sound “salesy,” so they downplay their credentials, their success stories, or their client wins.

But modesty doesn’t convert.

If you’ve helped 50 women regain energy after burnout, say it.

If you’ve got a Master’s degree, 10 years of experience, and a waitlist, let people know.

If your approach blends labs, mindset, and spiritual coaching into a truly holistic program, shout it from the rooftops.

Because if you don’t tell people how you’re different, they’re going to assume you’re just like the last health coach they saw on Instagram.

Step 4: Stop Playing It Safe with Your Copy

Another mistake we see health coaches make all the time is holding back in their marketing out of fear. They’re afraid to:

  • Overpromise and underdeliver

  • Offend someone by being too bold

  • Push people away by being too specific

And while those are understandable fears, the reality is this:

“If your copy isn’t strong enough and it’s not selling the future your client wants, your sales will suffer. And how long can you keep doing business with mediocre sales? Not long.” – Jillian Anderson

If your offer is truly valuable—and if you deliver results—you owe it to your potential clients to communicate that clearly and boldly.

This means:

  • Making bold promises, but backing them with real client results and clear expectations

  • Speaking to your dream client’s pain points unapologetically

  • Standing confidently in your transformation, even if it’s not for everyone

Because the truth is, safe copy won’t stand out.

Step 5: Stay Human in an AI-Generated World

We also talked about AI, and Jillian had some strong (and refreshing) opinions on it.

“Not one line that a client receives from me is generated by ChatGPT. That’s a boundary I’m not willing to cross.”

Now, while I personally do use AI in my business to speed up certain tasks (like summarizing transcripts or creating rough outlines), I couldn’t agree more with her core message: your voice still matters.

Especially in a market flooded with AI content, the fastest way to stand out online as a health coach is to sound like a real human who gets it.

Whether you use AI or not, make sure:

  • Your personality and tone come through in your content

  • You’re telling real stories from your clients and your own life

  • You’re showing empathy, nuance, and emotion—things AI can’t fake well (yet)

If you’re using ChatGPT to help brainstorm or reformat your ideas, that’s fine. But never let it replace your true voice.

Step 6: Listen to Your Clients More Than You Write for Them

This tip is gold, and it’s one I use constantly in my own business. When your sales are slowing down, don’t immediately go create new content or offers.

Instead, Jillian suggests:

“Audit your top three client calls. Read the transcripts. Listen to their words. Tune into their emotions. Let them show you what you should be selling.”

It’s so easy to get stuck in our own heads, especially when you’ve been in business for a few years. But the clearest messaging comes straight from the source: your clients.

Use their words to:

If you haven’t been recording your sales or kickoff calls, start now. Use a tool like Otter.ai to automatically transcribe everything and start building a vault of client language gold.

TL;DR – How to Stand Out Online as a Health Coach in 2025

If you’re feeling like your content is falling flat and your offers aren’t converting, don’t panic. You’re not alone—and you’re not broken.

But it is time to evolve your approach.

Here’s what you can start doing today to stand out online as a health coach:

  1. Specialize in a specific transformation, not just a tool or method.

  2. Sell the future, not the feature. Focus on outcomes and identity shifts.

  3. Get crystal clear about what makes you different—and say it loudly.

  4. Write copy that’s bold, specific, and emotionally connected.

  5. Use AI wisely—but never let it replace your voice or empathy.

  6. Let your clients’ language lead your content.

This is how you go from content that blends in… to content that books clients.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re a brand-new practitioner or you’ve been coaching for years, this market shift is your opportunity to clarify your message, recommit to your vision, and stand out by being more of who you really are, not less.
