About Cena Martin Chandler

With over 18 years of experience in building teams for companies and delegation, Cena Martin Chandler has developed a method that teaches online service providers a “no – fear” way of hiring remote teams. This approach directly counteracts the current industry training around hiring and building remote teams.

Cena’s approach is to take the CEO or Operations Manager through what she calls a “Mindset Makeover,” which implements psychology-focused belief building and validation to prepare them for managing team members. This approach maximizes managers and CEO’s ability to lead efficiently, and it’s a fresh breath of air to the typical, ancient training of “being a good leader” and “commanding authority” when leading other people. She believes this method will continue to produce empathetic, inclusive, and effective leaders as we move into 2021 and beyond.

How She Became an Operations Coach

Cena started off wanting to be a paralegal, but life took a different turn when she became a mom after high school. She tried multiple careers, but nothing clicked until she got into entrepreneurship and built a business that eventually hit six figures. Doing it all on her own caused her to get burnout.

The turning point came when her son told her that he never got to spend time with her because she was always working. That’s when she realized she wanted to figure out the system on how to build a team and hire people who could help her grow the business so she would no longer sacrifice time with family.

She became an Operations Coach both through formal training and hands-on experience. She went back to college to get certification and learn about human resources and organizational structures, but learned most through doing. Her key takeaway is that each business is unique and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to building teams or hiring.

Biggest Mistake When Hiring

For Cena, the biggest mistake  that most entrepreneurs make is immediately bringing somebody in to take over social media. Instead, she recommends that the first step would be to track your time so you can identify the task that’s taking the most time, and then you can hire help for that.

How Many Hours Should You Hire For?

Similar to understanding your time, it’s also important to assess your needs and budget first before deciding the number of hours the person you hire should work for. It doesn’t have to be 40 hours immediately. You can start small with 10-15 hours a week, then increase if the workload grows.

Signs You’re Ready to Hire

According to Cena, these are the 3 signs that it’s time to hire help:

  • When client work becomes overwhelming and you feel like there’s always more to do
  • When you’re neglecting important tasks like marketing or customer experience
  • When you have a clear, teachable process in place for tasks

Why Hiring Doesn’t Need to be Scary

There can be anxiety around growing your team. You may feel that no one can do the job as well as you. And you may be overwhelmed by the idea of training someone new. Cena wants you to put these fears to rest. From the very start of the hiring process, you can assess new and potential team members. You can try to give small tests to assess personality and skills to ensure you find the right person for your business.

While much of the hiring process is simpler than many think, there is still a lot to consider. Cena explains how she helps entrepreneurs through it by examining their processes and restructuring them when needed. While rebuilding your systems and processes, she helps them build up a team to maintain and improve efficiency.

Ultimately, she wants you to think about where you want to be for the next six months—either stuck in the same place or making progress with less effort. Understand your needs, take the next steps, and hire someone to help you get there.
